Two recurring billing platforms built for different businesses. Here is how they compare.
Compare in person on a live demo →Formerly known as Chargify, SaaSOptics.
Maxio fits a B2B SaaS company with a finance team that needs ASC 606 revenue recognition, expense amortization, SaaS metrics for a board deck, and usage metering at scale. If you have a controller and a data warehouse, Maxio was designed around you.
ChargeOver fits a business that bills customers on a recurring basis and wants the billing to run itself: agencies on retainers, accounting firms, SaaS companies under a few thousand customers, ISPs, alarm dealers, anyone sending the same invoices every month. You get subscriptions, one-time invoices, automatic retries on declined cards, a customer portal and 40+ reports in every plan, and a person to call when something looks off.
Maxio defaults to an annual agreement. Grow is $599 a month, so a year is $7,188 up front, and monthly or quarterly billing is a premium option.
ChargeOver is month to month from $229. If it stops earning its keep, you leave at the end of the month.
Maxio's Grow plan covers up to $100k in monthly billings. Above that you move to Scale and a sales quote.
ChargeOver is priced by how many customers you bill, not how much you bill them. The tier adjusts on its own, with no revenue ceiling and no percentage of revenue.
Maxio bundles billing with revenue recognition, expense amortization and SaaS metrics. That is the right buy for a finance team that will use all of it and has months to implement.
ChargeOver is the billing system: subscriptions, invoices, automatic retries on declined cards, a customer portal, 50+ gateways, and a sync to QuickBooks Desktop, Online and Xero. Setup takes weeks, and support is a chat or a Zoom call with a person.

You pay for the number of customers you bill, never a percentage of your revenue.

The businesses above are examples; your ChargeOver price depends on how many active customers you bill. ChargeOver plans: Growth $229/mo for up to 200 active customers, then $1.15 each; Enterprise Basic $549/mo for 500, then $1.10; Enterprise Growth $999/mo for 1,000, then $0.90; Enterprise Plus $1,999/mo for 2,500, then $0.60. The calculator shows whichever plan is cheapest for the customer count. Maxio is shown at its published list price as of September 2026. Maxio Grow: $599/mo up to $100K a month in billing, custom-quoted above that. Above $100K we show Maxio as "$599+" and draw its bar at Maxio's published rate ($599 per $100K a month in billing); it's an estimate, not a quote. Card processing fees are extra on both platforms. Negotiated contracts will differ.
Used by agencies, accounting firms, SaaS companies and service businesses billing 50 to 5,000 customers.

You send us an export of customers, plans and open invoices. We load them into your ChargeOver account, map your plans and billing cycles, and connect the payment gateway you already use, so stored cards keep working where the gateway supports token migration. You run both systems for one billing cycle, compare the invoices, then switch the customer-facing emails over. Most of the work is on our side.
At the entry level, yes: ChargeOver starts at $229 a month billed monthly, and Maxio's Grow plan is $599 a month paid annually, which is $7,188 up front. Your ChargeOver tier depends on how many customers you bill, so a business with several thousand customers should check the tier table. What does not change at any size: no annual contract and no percentage of revenue.
Yes. ChargeOver's revenue recognition follows ASC 606: revenue is recognized on a schedule and deferred revenue is reported, built in from the Enterprise Basic plan. Maxio's Grow plan includes standard revenue recognition; ASC 606 tooling with expense amortization and multi-entity consolidation is part of its Scale plan.
It matters a lot. Maxio is built around B2B SaaS finance: SaaS metrics, ARR schedules, investor reporting. ChargeOver bills agencies on retainers, accounting firms, alarm dealers, ISPs and SaaS companies the same way, with subscriptions, one-time invoices and usage charges on one invoice. If your business does not have a finance team, you are our customer, not theirs.
An export of customers, plans and open invoices from Maxio, an import on our side, one parallel billing cycle to compare, then a switch of the customer-facing emails. You keep your payment gateway, so stored payment methods carry over where the gateway supports it. Book a demo and bring your customer count; we will give you a timeline on the call.
Yes, both QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online, plus Xero. Invoices, payments and customers sync without re-keying. Intuit stopped selling new Desktop Pro and Premier subscriptions to new customers in 2024 and is steering customers to Online. If you're on Desktop today, ChargeOver keeps syncing while you're there and syncs to Online when you move, so your billing doesn't have to change twice. If QuickBooks Desktop is why you are looking, this is usually the deciding row in the table above.
Chargify merged with SaaSOptics in 2022 to form Maxio, and the Chargify product is now sold as Maxio Advanced Billing. If you are a Chargify customer looking at what your renewal now looks like, everything on this page applies to you.
